(also Choy Li Fut / Choy Lay Fut / Choy Lee Fut)

Cailifopai (蔡李佛派) is well known for it's speed and power, it's flexible footwork and it's smooth circular body movements which are fluidly chained together. While being a young style, Cailifo's tradition has deep roots within the martial arts of the Shaolin Temple.

The founder of the system, Chen Xiang (陳享) from Ging Mui (*July 10, 1806 - 1875), learned from three teachers: his uncle Chen Yuanhu (陳遠護), Li Youshan (李友山) and the monk Cai fu (蔡褔). His martial arts training began in early childhood with his uncle. Because of his talent and diligent training, he was soon offered a chief instructor post at the local Guan.

His time as the student of Li Youshan (李友山) began on the day that Li Youshan (李友山) arrived to the village. Chen Xiang (陳享) wanted to test his skills (Li Youshan was a disciple of the Shaolin monk Jin Sin - his skills were said to be formidable.). Chen Xiang (陳享) attacked Li Youshan (李友山) from an ambush but was defeated. Chen Xiang (陳享) quit his post as the chief-instructor and asked Li Youshan (李友山) to be his teacher.

One day, Li Youshan (李友山) and Chen Xiang (陳享) decided to visit the monk Cai fu (蔡褔), a recluse monk who was renowned for his Chinese medicine skills. They thought that he might have great martial arts knowledge as well. The monk Cai fu (蔡褔) really did. Li Youshan (李友山) left the temple in respect. Chen Xiang (陳享) asked the monk Cai fu (蔡褔) to be his disciple. Chen Xiang (陳享) stayed with the monk Cai fu (蔡褔) for 12 years, after which Chen Xiang (陳享) had all the knowledge he could receive.

Chen Xiang (陳享) left for his birth-place where he stayed for some years. Afterwards, Chen Xiang (陳享) taught martial arts at different places in China. During that time, Chen Xiang (陳享) united all the knowledge he received and eventually founded the Cailifo (蔡李佛) style (派). The style's name comes from the names of Cai fu (蔡褔) and Li Youshan (李友山), and Fo (佛) which is the word for Buddhist (qua Buddha).
